Welcome to
ISPIE
Championing for professionals who advocate for and educate individuals with barriers to learning.
The institute has the backing of Bellavista School and has support from the Southern African Association For Learning and Educational Differences and South African Council for Educators.
ISPIE, or the Institute of Specialist Practitioners in Inclusive Education, is a voluntary professional body registered as a Non-Profit Organisation. ISPIE sets standards to raise the status of inclusive practitioners in the educational sector.
By awarding designations, ISPIE aims to build public confidence in its members. These designations recognise members’ experience and encourage ongoing professional development. It comprises individuals who are health professionals, educators and other appropriately qualified and/or experienced persons working in the area of Inclusive Education. The Professional Body was launched in June 2015 at an open access conference that levied no cost to the delegates and was confirmed in October 2015 at a general meeting of interested stakeholders from various sectors.
Are you ready for the implementation of WHITE PAPER 6, the Primary Policy Document on Inclusive Education in South Africa which was expected to be implemented in 2021?
- In 2015, in anticipation of the Education White Paper 6, the Institute of Specialist Practitioners was established. Specialist knowledge would be acknowledged with the onset of Inclusive Education. Furthermore, specialist practitioners are stakeholders in their fields of expertise. They play an essential role in an inclusive learning environment.
- ISPIE is the specialist practitioner’s voice for ensuring that worthwhile, relevant support for our diverse learners in Inclusive Education takes place in the South African Education system.
- ISPIE encourages us to pool our resources and work together.
- Our designation benefit gives our members recognition for their further training in short courses and work experiences in the special needs field.
- Our partnership with training and facilitation companies gives discount benefits to ISPIE members, creating access to professional development.
- Our crowd sourced content, for example, recommended readings, provides much needed support for our colleagues who need advice in their field and in rural districts who have minimum local teaching resources.
